Departing from the premise that Poble Nou is designated as the maker district of Barcelona, the project problematizes the term maker and investigates how far it can be stretched.

What does it entail to be a maker, what do makers look like, in what areas/spaces do they hang out, what resources do they use, and what communities do they belong to?

Through design ethnography and co-creation for social digital innovation, the project aims to place the invisible makers of Poble Nou on the map.

The project Invisible Makers: Mapping Poble Nou from the Ground-Up explores the potentials of design ethnography and co-creation as design research methodologies for digital social innovation. Its hypothesis is that mapping can be seen as an approach that speaks the language of design, that open to the students the action and the critical making and reflection, that is capable of including relevant local actors and that produces different kinds of knowledge useful for life.
